High school credit cards — they’re a teenager’s dream come true and a mom and dad’s worst nightmare. Students beg for them, mom and run from them like they carry the plague. What has mom and pop so freaked out? If you want to have even half a hope of getting one of these coveted pieces of plastic, there are some things you need to know…
Better Do Your Homework
I’m not talking about that math assignment you turned in late last week. I’m talking about learning the ins and the outs of responsible credit card use. Your parents are more likely to consider high school student credit cards if they know you have the knowledge necessary to handle them responsibly. This means learning about credit limits, late fees, statement payments and everything else that goes along with credit card account ownership.
Speaking of Responsibility
If you really want to prove you’re ready for high school student credit cards, you’d better start showing mom and dad you’re a responsible individual. Responsible, as in, curfew is not a general guideline. Responsible, as in, that money you borrowed from mom for the movies has been paid back. You want to prove you’re ready? Start showing mom and dad you’re up for the challenge by taking your other responsibilities seriously.
Create a Contract
If you’re serious about high school student credit cards, get to work creating a contract for mom and dad to review. You’ll want to include highlights such as who’s responsible for what (ideally, you’ll be responsible for all charges) and how much you will be allowed to charge per week before mom and dad’s permission is required. This let’s your parents know that you understand a credit card is not a free-for-all spending spree.
If All Else Fails
If you do all of the above and your parents still think you’re not ready for high school student credit cards, here’s a last-ditch approach.
Start saving money. You’ll need about 0 for this to work. Once you have your 0 saved up go to mom and dad and tell them you want a secured credit card in order to start building a positive credit history. Tell them to use 0 of your 0 as the security deposit and the remaining 0 in a savings account in case you were unable to pay your bill for some reason.
This will show your parents that you understand the financial responsibility of being a credit card holder and that you’re ready to live up to that responsibility.
It may seem like a lot of effort, but the above steps really will help your parents feel better about getting you your own credit card. Remember, high school student credit cards are as scary for mom and dad as they are exciting for you.

A ticking time bomb of American debt. Over 0 billion are owed by college students in the US with thousand more added on every second. The most traditional financial baggage for Americans was credit card debt. For the first time, debt belonging to college students has over taken that number one spot. “Students graduating in 2008, 2009 and 2010 are facing the worst job markets in a generation at least. And so you have people with more debt that we have ever seen before, who are having a harder time finding any job, let alone a job that pays them enough to somehow pay off all this debt.”

It should. My daughter is using her school I.D. when she uses the Credit Option of her ATM check Card. She was 13 when I opened her student checking account.
As long as the I.D. has your picture on it and you are only using it to verify your identity to use the Credit Card.

@ 2:18 “like, woah, I’m totally unemployed, bra”
I can see that an education has really helped this young man.

The shark pools are the various systems you can get trapped in and screwed by. Knowledge, connections, self control and motivation makes you a shark in the fish tank. Sharks eat fish for breakfast lunch and dinner and grow fat from their own successes. =D
@AwakeInNJ999
I just stated facts. Rather than graduating in debt like you (or maybe you didn’t graduate) I am graduating with $ in my pocket and a salaried job. You know financial illiteracy is disturbingly prominent. I have met PHD students that I schooled on personal finances. I find it hillarious how people that get their dissertations published can be such fish in the shark pool.
@FutureCACPA <— Certified Public ASSHOLE
@FutureCACPA Judging from the smiley face with teeth, I bet you cream your pants at the very thought of tyranny. Have fun at camp FEMA sweetie because that is EXACTLY where your headed…
@AwakeInNJ999
I love how you think I am a sheep and not a wolf. You have no idea where I come from, who I am and where I am headed. However from your posting I can imply you are probably in default. People in default are usually a combination of unemployed and or stupid. Ass umptions…….
Now since you have a job you have no excuse not to pay your debt. I guess worst case scenario they will garnish your wages. =D
@FutureCACPA employed thank you very much… Focus on the real problem and message, not the messenger. It just shows how much you have been trained by the system. Good sheep… Now say BaHhh
@AwakeInNJ999
LOL
Obviously I know you haven’t paid enough since you still have debt! What is your employment status then?
@FutureCACPA
1. You know NOTHING about me or my financial obligations nor do you know how much I have paid nor do you know my employment status.
2. You sound like a judgemental, arrogant and extremely uninformed person being taught the financial system by the very crooks who created it.
Thanks to shills like you, they can keep it going!
Good Fucking Luck ! No Country likes America !! You fucking killers of innocent lives and invaders of foreign land. May you Decay from inside out and collapse on your own Shittt!…..Fucking Bastards….Die you Arrogant fucks
@MyFace43
No you have been lazy as hell for 2 1/2 years. I live in a very economically depressed area in Cali but I have an excellent job. You just have to gain marketable skills and network. Also work very hard when you get hired so you make them $ and they want to keep you. Even in this bad economy it is hard to find good employees ask any HR manager.
People are lazy and want to get paid top dollar for working only a few hours a week. This is why employers love foreign workers!
@AwakeInNJ999
You sound irresponsible. Get a job and pay your debt!
thank you service for giving me a 100% free education
Best advice for the next generation. DON’T go to college. Start your own business no matter how small or work. until Sallie Monster is taken down. College does not make you happy or successful. don’t let anyone pressure you not even your parents. Military, skilled trade-just being happy at a job that pays the bills is better than feeding the Sallie MONSTER BEAST OF GREED. Shame on ANY government official who takes their monster bucks.Vote em out of office and expose them and what they took.
Here is the “American way” of life. Go to school K-12. Go to “college”. Get a crap job making the same money as 1980′s or less. Pay student loan debt until you die. Pay for crap health insurance that covers nothing. Deal with credit card companies who charge rates like Sallie Monster that would make a loan shark blush. Have children and watch them repeat the cycle. US government? They could care less. Why? GREED. Gordon Gecko’s -all of the Sallie Monster puppets who turn their backs.
Look at all this chaos. To the Revolution NOW!

Thank god for the trust fund lol. J/K
I’m self made though but that took a long time. =P
I always felt like the flunky since I didnt have a degree for a while but educated myself at the book store and worked very hard in a business. Served in the military as well.
I’m glad I did the army and saved my paychecks. I go to school with no debt and have money in the bank and, looks like that was the best deal of all.
I think every student should default on their loans and crash the economy. Too many people should be held liable for what has happened,(not the students) and you know what stinks, no one will ever get in trouble for it.
9.5% interest on a loan that is immunized to bankruptcy……so much for interest rates comporting with risk.
@1234dpeck “Planning a solution” Well if you expend 2 years studding the economy, history and criticism, then you realize large firms are actually the problem, and in fact driving it. By no means think that they have anyone’s interests at in mind but their own, if you do you will never find how to make sense out of their actions. However if you assume they are against t little guy, then it all fits like a jigsaw puzzle. Don’t believe me, try it your self.
It’s possible that Coin may be making a weird comeback. For example: Pennies could be worth Dollars, Nickels worth $50, Etc. Thus the destruction of Cash.
Which could launch the economy, especially in America, into a whole new direction.
Maybe some large financial Firms have been planning such a solution such as this…?
It’s just a thought.
